Hi, I'm Keely

I wanted to take time in my first post to introduce myself, and tell you why the reason behind this blog. I am 26, single, traveling with my dog, my cat, and my horse. I started traveling by myself a few years ago and decided to throw photography into the mix, in the past 3 years I have taken 9 trips and am starting my fifth in February. Three whole months of traveling through Texas, trying to build my business as large as I can. In the next few paragraphs I will talk about why I am doing this, how I got started and all the other details along the way.

The inspiration

The name of the blog "True Adventures" is named after my 2.5 year old black lab True. He has been my traveling buddy through all of my solo road-trips, and is always excited for a new adventure. After our first 14 hour drive to Steamboat, Colorado went perfectly, I knew I had the best travel buddy I could ask for. He lays down in the back, sleeps the entire ride, and never asks to change the radio station (he doesn't provide much conversation though). What better way to document our travels together than dedicating everything to him. I am so excited to share our adventure with you.

Why Texas

I have traveled to Texas 4 times in the last 1.5 years, met incredible people who are now lifelong friends, experienced true Texas rodeo (those who know me, know I love any rodeo), and fell in love with everything the state has to offer.

But Keely, why are you dropping your life to go for 3 months?

Easy answer, because I can. I am single, 26 and have nothing holding me back. Two years ago on January 8th, I lost my grandfather. He was only 64, the hardest working person I have ever known, and the closest thing I had to a dad. Losing him was losing a major part of myself. He was just under 6 months from retiring when he passed, he had so many things he wanted to do after he retired, but he never got to do them. He is my rock, my inspiration, and my guiding light in this world. I know I can do this because I am his granddaughter, and she can do anything she sets her mind to. She is brave, she is stubborn, and she is ready. With is guidance from heaven, I know I will be successful. I love you so much grandpa, I miss you every single day, and I hope I make you proud.

See you soon

The entire experience made me realize that I can't wait until retirement to live, I need to do it now, for myself. My life can't afford to wait for me, there will never be another me to live this life. So that's why I am going, I'm going for him, but I'm also going for me, for the girl who needs comfort on bad mental health days, for the girl who wants to see the world, for the girl who knows life's not worth living unless I create a life for myself. So I have decided to pack up and hit the road.

So I hope you will join me on this journey to find myself, while getting lost on my travels.

With love,

Keely
